Free Food
TSFS received notification on November 3, 2011 that the Community Foundation of the Quincy Area has awarded TSFS a grant of $365.00 to be used for the "Increase of Freezer Space." Additional freezer space has been needed to hold frozen food donated by Midwest Food Bank of Peoria and River Bend Foodbank of Moline. Thank you, Community Foundation of the Quincy Area!
After Tri-State Family Services completed the application process in December of 2010, Midwest Food Bank approved TSFS to receive free food to redistribute to The Teen Center, Chrysalis Shepherding Home, and to our clients. Midwest Food Bank requires that we give the food to clients without charge, so we give it out without requiring them to use Blessing Bucks for it. This is a very popular service and we have many clients who come regularly to shop.
Midwest Food Bank’s program was initially brought to our attention by James Beadles who went with Sherry the first two monthly trips to Peoria to pick up food. Since then, George Link has been driving his truck and pulling a trailer when he and Sherry go once a month. Sherry and George walk through the warehouse and choose which items they want. It is very busy around here when they return as many volunteers come to help unload the trailer and put items away.
River Bend Foodbank of Moline, IL has also begun to deliver food to TSFS monthly. They charge 18 cents per pound which includes delivery.
